Ivy House – Wedding Chapel Fraud
I just watched this clip from a TV news program.
Ivy House, an Inglewood wedding chapel, shut down September 11 and took all money from the customers.
Some customers paid $16,000.00 so Ivy House can provide everything (Music, Cake, Photography, Videography, food. flower, etc, etc…). Considering most people book weddings 1 year earlier, there may be a lot of victims.
This makes us look bad.

why did it close down? is it true they were performing weddings with no license?
Comment by Lisa — February 10, 2010 @ 4:50 pm
I don’t know why they closed. It’s easy to become qualified to perform weddings. Actually, I’m thinking about getting ordained – just for fun.

I was married by a “pastor” at the Ivy House back in 2002. How can I find out if my marriage was even legal?
Comment by Theresa — February 14, 2011 @ 11:34 pm
You can look up marriage record online (if your county website is equipped). If not, you can visit city hall (county clerk) and ask for the record. You can buy a copy of your wedding certificate for several Dollars.
Email me if you have more questions.

God bless.

I did go down 2 the ivy house 2 pay 325.00 for the paperwork 2 be processed and I did receive a marriage certificate in the mail, but if ivy house wasn’t licensed then my marriage wasn’t legal right? How can I find out if they were licensed?
Comment by theresa — February 16, 2011 @ 9:52 pm
If your local county government has a legal document saying that you are married – Then you are married. My main worry is that Ivy House never turned in your marriage license. If that’s the case, there will be no record of your marriage at all.
Good luck. Can you update us?

Thank you for all ur help john. do u know of any websites or where I can go 2 find out if Ivy House was licensed?
Comment by theresa — February 17, 2011 @ 10:32 am
Hi
You shouldn’t really care if they were licensed or not. As long as you are legally married, that’s all it matters.
What matters is – are you able to get a copy of your own marriage certificate? Does it exist?
There is no point to track down your officiant to validate his past credential. So what if he was not qualified at that time? Will you get divorced and re-married just for the merit?
Can you get a copy of your own marriage certificate? That’s my question. You should try and see if your county website has online database.
Ventura County residents can look up marriage & divorce record from county website. I hope LA County website has similar system.
I have a feeling you will be just fine. Really..
Good luck.

They closed because they did prison weddings and they were all illegal.
